News & other stuff

Hello to all! I thought that I should inform you about some of the stuff I've been involved in during last couple of days.
First of all, for all of you out there who are Dekubitus fans (check my first post ever) there is good news. Dekubitus released their new CD. It's called "Nekro sevdah" and it's the expanded (more songs) and better produced (more polished) version of their 2005 release of the same title. Head over to Poskok blog for more info and details. I got the original CD of this new version of "Nekro sevdah" (I'm not uploading it until all original CD's are sold) and I must say that you won't be sorry if you somehow get it, it has some surprises on it, and it really does sound better than the previous 2005 version.
I've found this blog called jebo copyrights (fuck copyrights) and it's an excellent resource for all of you wanting to learn (download) more about recent Ex-Yugoslavian punk/hc stuff. Check it out, it has some good things on it.
There's also one sad news: PunchDrunk blog is closing down. I visited it today and was truly saddened with this news. It was one of the most inspiring blogs, and for me it was the one that got me into doing my own blog (alongside some other excellent blogs). I'll be missing it a lot, so cheers to Robert and his PunchDrunk!
Also, one of the things that will be going on with Nečista Savjest blog is that I'm going to take a break for a while. I've exhausted my CD collection, and I also want to upload more rare stuff on this blog so untill I figure out the way to rip cassettes (all Ex-YU punk/hc stuff from the 1990's is mostly on tape) to my computer I'll just post stuff on Nečista Savjest from time to time, and only if I find something really interesting.
Concerning dowloads, recently I've been following a discussion on Röckin' Nöiz about ADrive and the speed of downloads from that file hosting service. MediaFire was suggested as a possible alternative. I will try to post future uploads on both ADrive and MediaFire, only irony being that MediaFire has a 100 MB per file limit, so the bigger files (and as I see it, those are the ones needing faster download speed) won't be uploaded to MediaFire.
Well, that's it from me for now. Have fun in your life!

AKTIVNA PROPAGANDA - (2004) - Na ruševinah kapitalizma...

Aktivna Propaganda are an anarchist punk/hardcore band from Slovenia. They play music that is hard and fast and have lyrics that are uncompromising at expressing band's support and engagement in anti-fascist, anti-NATO, anti-authoritarian causes. "Na ruševinah kapitalizma..." (or "On The Ruins Of Capitalism...") is their second album (the first was self-titled and released in 2000). I watched them a few times live and they give you a good and inspiring show. They are still active so check them out at the links below.

PASMATERS - (2002) - Pasmaters

Pasmaters are a hardcore-punk band from town of Pula (yes, it's Pula time again on Nečista Savjest) in Croatia. They were originally formed in 1984 (according to Monte Paradiso Netlabel) but didn't do much and were truly active in the late 1990's. This is their only release that I know of. It was produced by the legendary Jule (of Anti Otpad, Eluj, Barrakuda, Bolesno Grinje, etc. fame). It's 17 tracks of fast and angry hardcore in Pula style and it's also one of my personal favourites. They are not active any more but if you're interested in them beware cos while surfing the net for more info about them you'll find at least three other bands from Croatia with the same name who have nothing to do with the band that I've posted here. Pasmaters is obviously popular name for a band in Croatia, it comes from a swearword phrase "jebo ti pas mater" which can be roughly translated as "dog fucked your mother".
Info Stuff: Monte Paradiso Netlabel (FLAC, Ogg Vorbis & VBR mp3 download of this album).
Update on 27.04.2008.: Anonymous corrected me and here's what he/she wrote: "They are active, and they have a new CD." Also there was a Pasmaters MySpace address provided so here it is -

HOĆU? NEĆU! - (2002) - No Border Jam 2002

Hoću? Neću! (roughly translated in English their name means something like "Will I? I Won't!" or maybe "Do I Want It? I Don't!") were a very influential band on Ex-Yugoslavian punk/hc scene during the 1990's. They come from town of Kraljevo in Srbija (Serbia) and play angry political hardcore-punk with really smart lyrics that criticize the nationalist elites and stupidity of war in Ex-YU. I don't know what they're doing now, but I think they still exist since I've found their MySpace page. On this recording you can't feel their full force and energy cos it was recorded in just one day in the studio so it sounds more like a live recording. I'll try to dig up their old tapes I've got, especially "Srpski san" and "Trulež" and upload them if I figure out how to transfer music from cassettes to my PC (any suggestions or info would be helpful - just leave a comment under "komentari"). Untill that happens, and you want more of their music, try googling for them, I'm pretty sure someone from Ex-YU has already posted their stuff on his/hers blog or forum.Info stuff: MySpace.
UPDATE ON 11.08.2012. : Some people have been asking for other Hoću? Neću! releases. I got few on tape, but in very poor quality as I don't have the original tapes, but a copy which is a copy of a copy of a friends' friends tape. That's how most stuff got spread around during the 1990's here in Balkans/Ex-YU. I did manage to find a last.fm page with most of their stuff (or that maybe is their full discography?) with free downloads of all the songs. Stuff online has been released under Uradi Sam label, and the link is here --> Hoću? Neću! discography.

LEVELLERS - (2002) - Green Blade Rising

Levellers are well known folk-punk band originally from Brighton, UK. They started playing back in 1988 and are active to this day. "Green Blade Rising" is their 15th album (including "the best of's" & "singles collections" according to their official site) and I have to say that, if you ask me, it's not as good as their early albums. But then, I also have to admit that Levellers were never my favourite band in the first place. I like their politics but their music is missing something, some kick in it, some energy or provocation. Obviously, there's nothing smart or informative that I can say about them so I would like to point you to the links below if you want to know more.

PETROGRAD [2002] Nineoneone

Petrograd is a band from Luxembourg and they were formed in October of 1996 by former member of bands like Subway Arts, No More and Bakunin's Children. They play this mix of emo/melodic/pop/punk/hc with both very personal and very political lyrics. This is their third album and I think it's the last stuff that they've released cos I couldn't find anything about them on the net (although, with a name like Petrograd I'm not surprised at that - ever tried typing Disorder into Google?).

UB40 - (1982) - Live

I've posted this CD cos I think it's great. The sound UB40 have on this live recording from 1982 isn't your usual UB40 sound that your mother likes (you know, those sugary love ballads, sort of songs you can hear on the radio). Here they sound great and the songs deal with more political topics. It was interesting for me to find out that their name comes from an unemployment benefit claim form (UB40 = Unemployment Benefit, Form 40) since I always viewed them as just an ordinary mainstream reggae band whose music was only good for playing on hotel terraces to 40+ year old tourists. Once more, my thanx go to Vedran M. (Humanita Nova, RDK, etc.) for breaking that illusion and introducing me to this UB40 release.

MANO NEGRA - (1988) - Patchanka

Another legendary band on Nečista Savjest. Mano Negra (or Black Hand) were a band from France that mixed all kinds of music styles like ska, rock, punk, reggae, latino, etc.. They existed during 1987-1995 period and were fronted by Manu Chao (today he's well known as solo artist). "Patchanka" is Mano Negra's first album and I have to say that I have listened to this band a lot when I first discovered them (sometime in late 1990's) cos their music was sooo infectious. Thanx for this CD go to Ivo B. who gave it to me as a birthday present.Info stuff: MySpace, Wikipedia, Manu Chao (has a section about Mano Negra).

ARGIES - (2003) - Fake Reaction

Argies are a punk rock band from city of Rosario in Argentina and they have that sound that many Latin American bands have, reminiscent of The Clash with something uniquely theirs thrown in. They were formed in mid 1990's (at least I think so cos their first album was released in 1996). If I remember correctly I first heard this band from Vedran M. (Humanita Nova) almost ten years ago. I bought this CD ("Fake Reaction" is by the way Argies' sixth album) in 2006 at Argies gig in KSET club in Zagreb and I have to admit that they sound much better live than on their CDs. Still, they're a pretty good punk rock band and I like their attitude & music.Info stuff: Official site (biography, discography, pics, some mp3's), MySpace.

Choking Victim & Leföver Crack

I bought this two CDs at Leftöver Crack's gig in Attack club (RIP) in Zagreb. Leftöver Crack was formed out of the ashes of Choking Victim so I've decided to post this two bands together.

Choking Victim are punk/ska/hc band from New York's Lower East Side neighborhood and they were active during the 1990's. "No Gods No Managers" is their only album, and I like it a lot! I first heard them on Hellcat Records' compilation "Give 'Em The Boot" and got interested in them. Then Leftöver Crack played a gig in my hometown and I got this CD from their distro. Now, it's here for our enjoyment. Hope you like it!Info stuff: Crack Rock Steady, Wikipedia.

As I've written earlier, Leftöver Crack was formed in 2000 after the breakup of Choking Victim. "Mediocre Generica" is their first album and it was released on Hellcat Records. Their sound is similar to Choking Victim and it's a mix of punk, hc, reggae, ska... Leftöver Crack are still active and nowadays they are signed to both Fat Wreck Chords and Alternative Tentacles. They are a very energetic band and if you haven't heard their music I would recommend you download this band and Choking Victim too.Info stuff: Official Site, MySpace, Crack Rock Steady, Wikipedia.

BAD RELIGION - (1982) - How Could Hell Be Any Worse?

Don't know what to say about Bad Religion. I like them a lot, at least this release and couple of others, but then, I don't like the stuff they have been doing for last decade or so cos it's just boring, when I listen to that it looks to me like they've found out a formula and they're sticking to it and are just not being inventive anymore. "How Could Hell..." is in my opinion the best Bad Religion album (with "Against The Grain" and "Suffer" maybe) and it's a quite nice reissue cos you get all these bonus tracks from their EPs. As usual with "big" bands like Bad Religion I feel stupid to just copy the info about them from various sites, so head to "Info stuff" links below for all you've ever wanted to know about this band.Info stuff: Official site, MySpace, Wikipedia.

Two 7" compilations

This two 7" compilations come on this blog courtesy of Malisha of Röckin' Nöiz blog. I have to admit that I had a bit of autocensorship trip when I was deciding to place a Gay Pride 7'' cover on my blog or not, but now somehow I figured it out and I feel that putting pictures of sex is less harmful than putting pictures of dead people on my blog. I then started to realize that all this so called Western Civilization is so hung up on dead people. The more dead they are, the more they enjoy them. Those fucking cannibals! And all those punk/hc covers, it's all the same, dead, genocide, pits filled with putrid bodies, it's like all those bands get off on all that death, they are also a bunch of fucking cannibals. Western Europe, take notice or you're gonna burn!!!

Full name of this compilation is "Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart (But The Very Next Day You Took It To Record And Tape Exchange)". It's a nice compilation, maybe I should have it put up at Christmas time, but since all that catholic shit don't move me (I'm an atheist) I think it fits here just right. There is NO god (and if you think about it, GOD spelled backwards is DOG! - thanx to the Spithead band I can give you this revelation)! God sucks, anyway you call it, God, Allah, Buddha, etc. Religion is an organization that controls people with the help of sex guilt and sheep behavior. It's crap, don't go to church, or mosque, or any temple of worship cos they want your soul. Karl Marx was right, religion IS the opium for the people! Have some heroin, it's better than god. Fuck the church, they make people get cancer and commit suicide! Religion is bad for you! You can see that I have a pretty strong feelings about religion and churches, and I'm sorry if I have offended anyone, but it's your fault if you are a dumb fucking asshole of a believer!

Gay Pride is an excellent compilation, bands are mostly melodic (except Doom) and they get the message across both in serious and in funny way. I personally like Chumbawamba song the best cos it's simple and straightforward. It goes something like: "What's the ugliest part of your body? / Some say your toes / Some say your nose / But I think it's your mind / Your mind / Your mind...". Can't beat that! Gay rights are violently debated in today's Croatia, last Gay Pride march was almost bombed with molotov cocktails, and the previous ones were also held under tight police supervision. Police wasn't there cos it was worried about gays & lesbians but cos it was worried about the primitives trying to disrupt the march. I have some gay & lesbian friends and I don't understand why ordinary people in Croatia hate them, cos I've found out that those gay & lesbian (hello to Anchi!) friends of mine are really cool people. When I get drunk the gay boys are not trying to rape me when I'm unconscious from alcohol intake (although straight people try to rob me when I'm in this state by picking through my pockets and wallet) and lesbian girls are so much fun to talk to than the ordinary girls (who are worried about the marriage and stuff like that). Download and have fun!

ECONOCHRIST [1994] Complete Discography

Econochrist were active during 1988-1993 period. They were a punk/harcore band from US that was formed in Little Rock, Arkansas (isn't Bill Clinton from there?) and which moved to San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1980's (maybe because of Bill Clinton - who would like to live in the same town with that nazi fucker?). But to keep it serious, the Econochrist were a good band, playing political hardcore that tried to get the message across to people. I got this Econochrist's double discography CD from late Domagoj Š. who always had something interesting in his collection. I have to admit that I've always viewed this band to be emo (don't know why cos they are playing pure American hardcore), it must be cos this discography was released on Ebullition Records which I always associated with HeartattaCk fanzine (the same people do both), and that zine was emo and too much politically correct piece of reading for my taste. Don't know, maybe I'll alienate some visitors of Nečista Savjest, but all this political correctness, I believe it is a nazi thing, a ploy to make you not ask the right (or better said - wrong) questions. Screw that shit, Econochrist are innocent in this rant I'm having with myself, we should all just enjoy their music! Thanx to Malisha of Röckin' Nöiz blog for the scans!Info stuff: biography, Wikipedia, Ebullition Records.

BROKEN BONES - (1993) - Death Is Imminent-The Collection

Broken Bones need no introduction, but all the same, I'll do it anyway. First, big thanx to Dean D. (AKA Ćiro) who got me hooked on Broken Bones (and Chaotic Dischord, but I'll talk about them in some other post). Ćiro played me their "F.O.A.D." song from some screwed up tape copy while we were a bit drunk and hanging out at his place and then we ate his grandmothers rosary made out of pastry (it tasted like plaster). Don't know which one (booze or rosary) did it for me, but I started liking the Broken Bones a lot. They were formed back in 1983 by a guy called Bones (real name Tony Roberts) who at that time quit playing the guitar in Discharge. With his brother (also ex-Discharge) and some other people he formed Broken Bones and the rest is history. Thanx to Malisha of Röckin' Nöiz for the scans.

RESIST - (1993) - Endless Resistance

Jebeni Resist! Sorry, I just couldn't keep off from using Croatian language when describing this release. Resist are one of the best and most influential bands that I can think of when I'm talking about my personal views on music and politics. Big thanx to Nikt Nic Nie Wie/Malarie Records from Poland/Czech Republic for this CD release, here you can find almost all (or is it complete?) of Resists discography. If you are new to this band, then download this CD so you can learn about the "better past" of punk. I'm not going to pretend to have all the info in my little finger so you'll just have to find out more about them at "Info stuff" links, but, for your information, Resist were an anarchist punk/hc band from Portland, Oregon, USA, that played from 1988 till 1994 and were an all-inspiring and great band to listen to. This CD is still available and you can get it from various distros you can find on the net.

DYSTOPIA [1994] Human=Garbage

This is a first album from the American punk/metal/grind legends Dystopia. I love this release. I was introduced to Dystopia's music via Alen P. (AKA Birdman) and I was at first suspicious when he offered me this CD cos the Birdman sometimes used to listen to some weird metallic shit. But this time the Birdman was right! Dystopia are one mother fucking great brutal band that connects me with a lot of stuff that I like (smoking weed, wanting to be left alone by the humanity, dying from alcoholism, etc.). Take notice, the last song ("Sleep") has an almost 20 minutes long silence gap and I've left it like it is (didn't cut it up). You should just let it play, maybe you'll fall asleep (like I did when I first listened to this release) and get scared when the song kicks back in. Dystopia rules!

JUGGLING JUGULARS - (2000) - Propaganda Immunity

Juggling Jugulars are a band from Finland that started playing around the beginning of the 1990's. They play a quite intense anarcho-hardcore with angry female vocals (and some male ones in the background). They are still active and they are touring around the Europe (but not in my part of this continent) and if they are so energetic live as they sound on this CD you should go and check them out. I don't know much about them except for what I've written above so check the "Info stuff" links to find out more.

POST REGIMENT - (1996) - CzarzŁy

Post Regiment are a punk/hc band from Poland that was formed back in 1986. I don't know much about them but they are a great band. They have this Polish sound, great guitars and vocals and this rhythm that makes me wanna pogo. I like this band a lot. "CzarzŁy" is their second album and it's the one that got me hooked on Post Regiment. Poland has a number of great punk/crust bands (and when I think about it, Poland has excellent bands that play all types of music styles) and Post Regiment are the one at the top of the punk/hc list for me (with Dezerter and Enough also there somewhere). I highly recommend this download!

PARTIBREJKERS - (1999) - Najbolje od najgoreg

This is more punk than my previous couple of posts, more precisely, I would describe this band to be a punk 'n' roll band. They started playing back in 1982 and released their first album (self-titled) in 1985. They are still playing around and preparing to release their new album. This is a compilation of their stuff from their first four albums with the last two songs being new, never before released ones. I've found out on the net that this compilation was originally released back in 1996 (I guess I've ripped this CD from a 1999 reissue or got confused somewhere along the way). The cover is not an original one, I've just used a photo I found on the net cos the original one was, well, too ugly and didn't do them justice. Partibrejkers are an excellent band and I would recommend them to anyone who likes The Stooges, Cramps, and similar r'n'r/garage/punk sound. You can find more info about Partibrejkers on their Official site like lyrics, biography, discography, etc. (although it's mostly in Serbian), then there's their MySpace page and an article on Wikipedia that you can check out.

RAMBO AMADEUS - (1998) - Zbrana dela 2

Under this excellent pseudonym hides an artist from Crna Gora (Montenegro) whose real name is Antonije Pušić. He started doing music back in the late 1980's. His style is hard to describe cos he mixes all kinds of influences like rap, folk, metal, electronic, you name it and he's used it somewhere in his songs. This is a compilation of his works and I think it's a very good representation of his music since some of his albums tend to get boring when you listen to them as a whole. This is not punk, but I think it could be interesting to someone who wants to learn about Ex-Yugoslavian music scene since he is very well known in all Ex-YU countries and is considered to be a music ''legend''. You can check out his Official Rambo Amadeus site, and there's also an article on Wikipedia about him.

ZVONKO I GRADSKI URED ZA KULTURU - (2004) - Rapa a sastama

Zvonko i gradski ured za kulturu (meaning Zvonko And City Office For Culture) were a cabaret punk band from Zagreb fronted by indestructible Mario Kovač (artist, actor, movie and theater director, and much more). This band doesn't exist any more, I guess it was just another project for Mario. The name of the band is a joke poking fun at Zagreb's bureaucratic organization of all things connected with culture. City Office For Culture is an office in Zagreb's city government which hands out money and rents city owned spaces to art & cultural projects and is filled with stuck-up bureaucrats who don't care or understand anything about culture. So, to make it short, the people in that Office are a whole bunch of morons sitting in high payed positions doing nothing. I've managed to dig up Zvonko's web page that looks like it wasn't updated for a long time, but it's better than nothing and you can check it out here.

The Bambi Molesters

The Bambi Molesters are a surf rock band originally from a town of Sisak in Croatia (they live in Zagreb these days) that started playing in the mid 1990's. Their type of surf isn't the Beach Boys type of surf music, but it sounds more like a music from some movie soundtrack cos most of their songs are instrumental ones. They are more popular outside of Croatia, they even played as an opening band for R.E.M.. I like their music, and I can recommend it as a really good and inspiring background for solo drinking while working on something. ''Intensity!'' is their second album and ''Dumb Loud Hollow Twang De Luxe'' is, as it is written on the cover, the remake of their first album with bonus tracks. The Bambi Molesters have an Official page that you can check out here if you want to know more about them.
