HANK WILLIAMS [2006] Calling You

OK, this one might be a strange post, I have put reggae and dub beside punk on this blog, but now it's time to have some country music on Nečista Savjest. Hank Williams is a father of Hank Williams Jr. (cheesy country music star) and grandfather of Hank III (some of you might have heard of him). Hank Williams was a country singer troubled with alcohol problems who died in 1953 being only 29 years old (and if you believe the Wikipedia article about him, he died not from alcohol but from morphine overdose). I had to put him on here as he is one of the two country artists I like (second one is, oh so predictable, Johnny Cash) and this is a quite good compilation of his works (I do wish Hank's “Angel Of Death” was on this CD, then it would be a 100% perfect release). If your girl left you, and you're all alone, and feeling depressed while trying to find a meaning of life in this confusing world we all live in, I would recommend listening to Hank Williams, he will at least make your troubles seem smaller when compared to his own. Hank WIlliams was a great guy, and his music rocks, and I don't care what anyone thinks about me saying that!

VA - Dub Chill Out [1996]

No point in me writing anything here, anyone into dub can see from the tracklist that there are great Jamaican artists on this compilation, King Tubby is a legend, Sly & Robbie are legends, King Jammy (aka Prince Jammy) is a legend, and Lee “Scratch” Perry is a legend, although I did manage to dig up a review of this release: “First of all, it should be pointed out that this is a great dub collection. However, the usually reliable people at Music Club have pulled a bogus card from their deck with this one: the six tracks credited to Scratch are actually King Tubby dubs of Bunny Lee productions with new and silly titles as "Lee Perry Upsetting Dub", "Lee Perry Special Dub" etc. To make matters worse, it's likely that all of the tracks are mistitled. Buy it for the classic King Tubby shots; Scratch isn't here.” So there you have it, judge for yourselves, all I know is: this is a great compilation, I listened to it extensively, and I was definitely chilled out.

USUAL SUSPECTS, THE [2007] Breaking Bars And Crushing Codes

I love this band, thanx go to Danijel B. who introduced me to them but sadly I have nothing really smart and informative to write about The Usual Suspects (although I really want to as this band does kicks ass) as they entered my radar just recently. All I know about them is that they are from Leuven, Belgium (hmm, my liver is kicking in and giving me a hint that Stella Artois beer is originally also from this town) and that they started playing back in 2001. They remind me mostly of the all-mighty P.A.I.N. but sounding more rougher (as in: they have this more coarse, punk sound). They are still active and gigging around so I would recommend you people go and see them if they play in a venue near you and also be sure to catch their previous album “Hasta La Vista, Comandante!”.

P.A.I.N. FEATURING HOWARD MARKS [1999] Let Me Grow More Weed CD Single

What is there to say about this release? For info on the band (P.A.I.N.) you can check my previous post about them and well, Howard Marks should not be a stranger to anyone smoking the sweet ganja. I enjoy this release greatly, if only for a dull hum of Howard saying “Grow More Weed”. For an ignorant few of you Howard Marks is a biggest ganja dealer ever in British history, he got screwed (I almost wrote screweed) over by Americans and served time in them Nazi American jails. He has an autobiography out called “Mr. Nice” which I actually bought while visiting Amsterdam's Marihuana Museum (and also most probably payed for it more than I really should have, but excuse me, this is my lonely bragging rights times). And I read that bloody book, it is a good book, giving you a lot of insight in how the things work in this world of ours so it is highly recommended read. Enjoy the release, enjoy the weed, enjoy the book, and please, please, GROW MORE WEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Btw, I think this still might be available at Iron Man Records so check there for your original! And let me Grow More Weed!!! Yep, they've got me with that catch phrase!

MONKHOUSE + STRIKNIËN DC [1996] Glue Bag + ...From The Dead Room split CD

This is a split CD from two really good Irish bands: Monkhouse from Belfast (and their “Glue Bag” bit) and Strikniën DC from Dublin (with their “...From The Dead Room”). I am at a loss with what to write here, not only cos I find both bands to be awesome, but also cos there is no info to be found on them on the CIA spy web (aka Internet). I know nothing more about both of the bands except that Monkhouse are now called Thee Radicals and that Strikniën DC had beside this release two albums called “Ghettoblaster” and “Horses For Courses” and a 7'' called “Songs From A Smack Cradle”. Through some whispering in dark corners of punk scene I heard a rumor that someone from Strikniën DC might have been in legendary Irish punk band Paranoid Visions, but I can't say with certainty that this is true. If any Irish punks have more info on both of the bands it would be much appreciated!

SUBLIME [1996] Sublime

And now for something completely different... Oh my non-existing god, my lines are starting to get really pathetic! OK, Sublime was a band from Long Beach, California. They played from about 1989 til 1996 when their singer Bradley Nowell died of a heroin overdose. They mixed punk, reggae, dub, hip-hop and who knows what else in their music in this sorta commercial american (read: likable on first listening) style, but I would be doing them wrong if I said they were commercial cos a lot of topics they covered in their songs were all but commercial. Stuff they are dealing with on this album (which is their third and the last studio one) ranges from riots, poverty, love, hate, rape, prostitution, drug use, living in general, etc... Personally, I quite like Sublime, I have a fond memory of a summer spent in a cloud of ganja smoke, just chilling and listening to them.
After Bradley's death the rest of the guys had a band called Long Beach Dub Allstars which was a bit too mainstream (for example: songs with Gwen Stefani of No Doubt and Will.I.Am of Black Eyed Peas) sounding for my taste.
Well, check the links bellow for more info about Sublime and just try to enjoy the music and keep your mind open, fuck divisions, and also never use heroin, as you can see from Bradley Nowell's example (and many more before and after him) you will most probably die! Smoke spliffs, it's better, only your memory is at risk of dying, and if you listen to Mark Twain who in 1894 said: “If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything.” you can only ask yourself "Who needs memory anyway?".

JELLO BIAFRA WITH NOMEANSNO [1991] The Sky Is Falling And I Want My Mommy

I know I have said in my previous post that I was done with Dead Kennedys, but I have sort of lied cos on this recording it's one Dead Kennedy (Jello Biafra) teaming up with one of my favourite bands - NoMeansNo!!! I saw NMN on a gig in Ljubljana, Slovenia, back in I guess it was 1993 or 1994 (I think they were promoting their “Why Do They Call Me Mr. Happy?” album) and although my long term memory seems to be shot to pieces I do remember that the crowd was ruthless, the venue was too small and I sweated out at least 2-5 litres of liquids while struggling to reach the stage, but all in all, it was one of greatest gigs I have ever been to, and brothers Wright played an encore bit as Hanson Brothers, with hockey masks and jerseys included.
I like this release very much, I think that energy and NoMeansNo's style of playing goes well with Biafra's hysterical vocals. One of more interesting things is that the song “Bruce's Diary” was inspired by Biafra's role as agent Bruce Coddle in the movie “Terminal City Ricochet” (1990). I hope you will enjoy this joint effort by Jello and NMN, and watch the movie too if you get the chance, I don't know if it is available to buy anymore, but I think it can be found on torrents.

DEAD KENNEDYS [1987] Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death

This is the last of Dead Kennedys on this blog, and also is the last of their official releases. “Give Me Convenience Or Give me Death” (such a great title for a record) is a compilation of Dead Kennedys singles and compilation tracks. It is a great release, what I mean is, it opens with “Police Truck”, then it jumps right on to the “Too Drunk To Fuck” (aren't we all?) and mighty “California Über Alles” is there to deal the final blow (and those are just first 3 tracks!!!). I used to listen to this record for months, again and again, I had it taped from an original LP, I had photocopied the lyrics and I was in my own little heaven. No wonder I never got any girls (or was the truth about me not getting the girls in my excessive drinking on those times when I finally did got out of my room? That is a topic best left for some other post I guess). I am out of words here, I don't know what to write next, I know I love Dead Kennedys, and I love this release. Download it, listen to it, and bloody GO and BUY IT as you should buy all Dead Kennedys stuff, from Alternative Tentacles, help the label, support the scene!!! It is not that expensive!!!

DEAD KENNEDYS [1986] Bedtime For Democracy

“Bedtime For Democracy” was Dead Kennedys' last studio album. Here, at least in my eyes, the band is having a sort of “to call a spade a spade” moment, they're going against everything and anyone doing wrong in the world of those long forgotten 1980's (but the 1980's shouldn't be forgotten, I think we should remember them as a prelude to genocidal 1990's and schizophrenic 2000's). On this album all kind of 1980's nasties got told what Jello and the band thought about them, from retarded Alzheimers patient/Hollywood cowboy/American president Ronald Reagan and aggressive US foreign policy, to media (TV & movies) and even punk movement (and I agree with everything Biafra/band said). I must admit that in spite of some great moments I do not think this is one of their best works. It has some great stuff on it, like a cover of David Alan Coe's “Take This Job And Shove It” and one of the best reaganomics/cannibal songs I have ever heard - “Dear Abby”, and also there is a justified critique of punk movement in “Chickenshit Conformist” and “Anarchy For Sale”, and a few just mother fukking great tunes, but somehow I feel this album is just a bit too long, maybe if it was released like a mini LP... But then again, who am I to judge, and, it's Dead Kennedys after all.. I admit, I am the first to say I can never have enough of them!

DEAD KENNEDYS [1985] Frankenchrist

OK, with this Dead Kennedys album the shit has hit the fan as American saying goes. Ronald Reagan's (yep, it's that cowboy guy from 1950's western B-movies) administration and Washington wives (and one among them was Tipper Gore, the wife of Al Gore, an asshole who is now pretending to care about the environment to get people to vote for him) have been working hard to make us all believe in their version of Christianity and Christian fundamentalism, and one of the victims of their witch hunts in USA are Dead Kennedys. In “Frankenchrist” LP there was a H.R. Geiger Giger poster (H.R. is a guy who designed a monster for “Alien” movie amongst other things) and the Christian American retards decided to strike hard against this unholy alliance. Dead Kennedys were sued, together with Alternative Tentacles (the record company which released the record) and if I am not wrong even the pressing plant and a distribution store got sued too. The lawsuit almost ruined the band and the record company. If you're interested in all the trial proceedings I would recommend listening to Jello Biafra's “High Priest Of Harmful Matter” spoken word as it gives you a greater perspective on the whole case. I must admit it was, at least for me personally, a quite revealing thing, which showed me the ways in which the system works, and, it did made me a bigger cynic. “Frankenchrist” is a good album, although not one of my favourites by Dead Kennedys, but songs like “Jock-O-Rama” or “MTV - Get Off The Air” were the ones putting a smile on my face while I listened to this record!

DEAD KENNEDYS [1982] Plastic Surgery Disasters + In God We Trust Inc.

Yep, here are the second and third release by Dead Kennedys on one CD. I can't tell which one of the two I love more, “In God We Trust Inc.” (originally released back in 1981) has some of all time hits (for me personally) like “Nazi Punks Fuck Off”, “Kepone Factory” talking about Kepone which was apparently the pesticide of the day, then of course there were “Religious Vomit” and “Moral Majority” songs which told the moral figureheads of the 1980's America just what to do with their moral bullshit (and where to stuff it), and there was also “Dog Bite”, such a senseless song, but many bottles got broken over it and many punk hugs exchanged too. I love the energy and rage of this Dead Kennedys mini LP.
And now I will swing to the main feature of this upload, “Plastic Surgery Disasters” which was released back in 1982. This is, I personally think, my favourite Dead Kennedys album, I am so into it, I am so taken by it every time I listen to it, the trip starts from the first songs, from “Government Flu”, and then it leads up (ok, I am skipping a few of the songs) to the “Forest Fire” (I don't know, I think its my favourite song of the album), and then going over to the “Riot” which leaves a steely taste in my mouth, and sweaty palms too, like I was there, and then, in the end “Moon Over Marin” comes... I don't know, but the way this band plays and on top of it, Biafra's vocals and lyrics... It just gets me,no drugs or TV series can do it for me as Dead Kennedys can!

DEAD KENNEDYS [1980] Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables

Ha! Yes, I have been long gone from this blog, I had some stuff going on in my life that took me away from blogging and posting music, and I don't want to go into details about it cos I think that stuff I do in my personal life doesn't have to be open or available to people on my blog. This is about music. And I have to admit one thing, I have been listening to a lot of Dead Kennedys lately, they've got me again, just like they've got me when I was 15... I don't know, I love Dead Kennedys, I know that everyone has them in their LP/CD collection so I did wonder: is there any point in me posting them? But I will do it... For myself... I love this band, after my circled A DIY tattoo on my fist they were the tattoo number two. Also DIY, on my forearm. I just can't help myself, when I hear Biafra scream the lyrics to “Chemical Warfare” or “Ill In The Head” I just go crazy and start asking myself why there is no band since them that gets me so excited and annoyed at the world at the same time.
Well, OK, enough about my views on things, this was the first album by Dead Kennedys, it was originally released on Cherry Red label from the UK, so I guess that is the answer why you could find songs like “Kill The Poor” on the same UK punk compilations with bands like 999 or even Generation X (or also usual punk compilation fodder song - Angelic Upstarts' “White Riot” live cover of The Clash).

BRUTALNO PODRIGIVANJE [1996] Pripovjetke naguženog fauna u potrazi za analnim bespućima (cass)

Brutalno Podrigivanje (Brutal Belching would be an English translation of their name) are an unique occurence in history of music. Three memebers of Brutalno Podrigivanje: El Vineros, Bumbaron & Temišvar have been creating music almost throughout all of the 20th century, travelling around the world and spreading their wisdom and good vibration tunes. This tape (which I acquired by bribing an Armenian border guard working on Romania/Moldova border post above Markuševac quadrant) is a pretty rare thing. I don't know how many copies of this tapes are still in existence, who knows, the one I ripped from for this post might be the only surviving one! Well, I must say that I have no clue when exactly this taped document came out, but I know that Ivana Plechinger, a Croatian pop singer who used their track “Žvala 'tica nebeska” for her hit song did her thieveing operation back in 1996 so I am presuming that it is the year of the release of this tape. And, when you look at the all encompassing harmony and artistic value of this tape, its year of release isn't really important, the music is...
OK, now seriously, this tape was released back in 1996 or 1997 by three stooges of Pula punk movement. It is filled with their inside jokes, a lot of it is just spoken word kind of thing, they are having fun, but I doubt it will have any effects on you if you don't speak Croatian language. The quality of the tape is pretty poor, you can hear the lot of background noises and hissing, but I like it, and that is why I wanted to have it here on Nečista Savjest. It reminds me of a darker (but somewhat innocent) days of 1990's (Or I should have said happier? Or ignorant times?). I wouldn't recommend downloading this to anyone who is not from Ex-Yugoslavia region as its appeal would most probably be lost on you.
Info stuff: There is no info on Brutalno Podrigivanje on the Internet, as evil pop/shit/kitsch artists teamed up with C.I.A. to suppress all information on this unique band!!!!
UPDATE on 2012-05-10.: go to Monteparadiso Netlabel and get an extended version of this! There's even a FLAC to be DL-ed! :) link here.
Re-uploaded on 2012-12-14.

Were there any... technical problems??

There was some trouble with downloading stuff from ADrive, it seems they for some unknown reason moved all my files from being public ones (and hence available for download) to private ones (making them not possible to download). I fixed it, so there should be no more problems with ADrive links. MediaFire and Div$hare ones are to my knowledge working as usual. Stay good, I'll see you soon!
