VA - Aussie 3-Way Split Tape! [1997] (cass)

I got this tape through Dado B. (aka Marva) who ran Bloody Murderer Tapes label/distro. This tape is a compilation of three Australian bands which all hail from Richmond, town/suburb of Melbourne. Basically, as I was able to decipher from the cover, this is three releases being put on one tape: Drunkard's "Confusion demo '97" (released originally on Beerache Productions), Phobia's self titled demo and Stand Against's "Bred To Hate" demo. At the time I got this tape I have not heard of any of the bands on it but later I got hold of the "Riot On Ramsay Street" CD compilation and on it you can find one song by Phobia and one by Stand Against, together with some quite interesting bands, so keep your eyes open for that one. Music on this 3-way tape is crust/grind/punk type, and quality of recordings varies from band to band. I personally like Phobia best at the moment, but Stand Against are closing in fast. It's brutal, and it's energetic, so just play it loudest you can and enjoy!!!

VA - Nova Scotian Jigs & Reels [1998] (cass)

This one (as many other tapes) found its way to me through Dado B. (aka Marva) who ran Bloody Murderer Tapes label/distro. It says it is a benefit tape of some sort, but kill me, I have no recollection for what, well, all Marva's tapes were a benefit for something I guess. The tape itself was put together and cover for it drawn/made by Kukatz and his Fecal Forces Productions. It features five bands who are all from town of Halifax, capital of Nova Scotia province of Canada. Music ranges from crust, grind to fast angry hardcore. I quite like this compilation as I never heard any of the bands before.

VA - Benefit za Infoshop (cass) [1999]

This compilation tape was released as a benefit (hence the title) for Attack's Infoshop. Attack (short for Autonomna Tvornica Kulture or Autonomous Culture Factory) was this non-profit organization, almost a coalition of different groups and individuals formed back in 1997 (I think, cos memories are somewhat blurred). Infoshop was a fun part of it all, one could drink a proper coffee there, buy zines (and steal them as many assholes have done), talk to kind and friendly bartenders (who are also responsible for making this tape possible) and generally kill time with a feeling of making a difference. Attack exists even now, it is not dead yet, but to tell you the truth, I have not been involved in it for a long long time, and I have no clue in what it turned out into and I don't really want to know. Well, enough about memories of past times, the tape is mainly Croatian bands, with a few exceptions (Autonomy, Wat Tyler, Phill Hutchings...), music is varied, ranging from dirty punk and anarchist hardcore to some experimental type of music, it is really hard to describe it all. I must warn you that the quality of recordings is pretty low cos most bands donated either live or demo tracks.

VERBALNI DELIKT [1997] Od verbalnog protesta do otvorenog sukoba (cass)

Second tape by Croatian anarcho legends Verbalni Delikt, called "From Verbal Protest To Open Conflict", this time dealing with mainly anti-authoritarian stuff spiced up with anger about Samobor "riot" (on 31.10.1995.) when special police beaten up and terrorized punx and "normal" youths without mercy after a broken up gig (some 200+ people were arrested). I have written about this band in my previous post so check that for more info. This release also came with a booklet, with lyrics translations and explanations of them in English and it's included in the download folder.

GRAĐANI DRUGOG REDA [1997] Krik (cass)

Građani Drugog Reda (or Citizens Of The Second Order) were another band from neighbourhood of Špansko in Zagreb, the hot bed of the revolution in the late 1990's. Their sound is straight forward anarchist punk, mixed with hardcore with a little hint of Oi!. "Krik" ("The Scream") is their first demo, and if I remember right their only release cos sadly they were short lived act formed back in 1996 and only playing till the end of 1998. RAZLOG ZA [1998] Sutra (cass)

Razlog Za (or Reason Why in english) was as a straight edge hardcore band from a town of Kutina in Croatia. This tape (btw "Sutra" means "Tomorrow") was recorded during the winter of 1997/1998. I liked them a lot while they were playing and I hope you will like them too. It is a really in your face straight edge with a lyrics to match. Can't recollect any funny stories with them cos I never got drunk with them (hehe, sorry for this lame joke!), but I do remember seeing them a couple of times in Baraka venue in Kutina, and they were great!!!

HEADJAM [2000] Wizontic

Here is a great band... I did this one on request from my friend Danijel. HeadJam are a punk dub band from south London, England, I hope you like their music, I can't write about them now as I am too much wasted, but it is a great band if you want to chill out and think about shit going around in the world in the same time. Well, have fun with this one people. It is all dubby and political too.

DEMANT + S.P.K. [1998] split tape (cass)

Demant were a band from town of Križevci and they play fast angry songs in punk/grind/crust/hc style. S.P.K. were from the town of Split, they play similar to Demant but more punk sounding music, really energetic and in your face songs (my favourites are “Anti-Cop” and “Probudi se”). This split tape was released by Marko S. from In Medias Res fanzine.

INTOXICATE + RADIKALNA PROMJENA [1998] split tape (cass)

Wow! This one is a special treat for me! Intoxicate were a crusty band from town of Samobor and Radikalna Promjena are featured already on Nečista Savjest blog (check it out here). Radikalna Promjena side was recorded live 03.01.1998. on a gig in MKNŽ club in Ilirska Bistica in Slovenia during “Preko zidova nacionalizma i rata” (Over The Walls Of Nationalism And War) tour which was done together with Unutrašnji Bunt from town of Kraljevo Kovin in Serbia. Cheers to DHP-AK47 & Humanita Nova for releasing this!
Update on 2008-08-22.: as Dezurni informed me, Unutrašnji Bunt were from a town of Kovin, not Kraljevo.

DISSECTED HUMAN BRAINS [1997] Kolaps (cass)

Dissected Human Brains (or D.H.B.) were from Špansko, the same neighborhood of Zagreb as Verbalni Delikt. D.H.B. play hardcore with male/female vocals with usual anti-militaristic, anti-state, anarchist lyrics. The band didn't exist for long time (1996-1998) and left only this tape and, for me personally, one very memorable gig in KSET club when they played in front of Nula and Forca Macabra.

“Prvi korak” (or “The First Step”) is one of my favourite compilations from the 1990's since it was from this tape I first heard of bands like Atheist Rap that I love and listen to still to this day. Tape features bands from Croatia and Serbia (well, actually all from Novi Sad) and their music styles range from melodic punk/hc to growling hardcore. It was released by M/F Scum Records run by two guys from towns of Našice and Osijek who also did a fanzine called “M/F Scum”. “Prvi korak” also came with a booklet and it is included in the download file.

VERBALNI DELIKT [1995] Za bolje sutra (cass)

Verbalni Delikt is another one of legendary Croatian anarchist hardcore punk bands from the 1990's. They came from neighborhood of Špansko in Zagreb and were formed back in 1994. “Za bolje sutra” (or “For Better Tomorrow”) tape is their first release. They released I think two more tapes and later they transformed through some lineup changes into more widely known band called AK47. All the time they were fronted by their singer Fistra who also did a fanzine called “Bojkot” back in the 1990's and I think he still runs DHP-AK47 distro & label so go to the link below if you're interested in original releases, there might be some of them still available (or reissued). Tape came with the booklet and I've included scans of it in a download file.

BAD JUSTICE [1995] Greed (cass)

Bad Justice were a political punk/core/trash/grind band from a town of Požega in Croatia. As far as I know and can remember they were formed in 1993 and were very active during second half of the 1990's. This tape called “Greed” is their first release, they also appeared on numerous tape compilations and also have released a split CD with Radikalna Promjena back in 1999. They had many lineup changes, but I have to admit that I like them best as they sound on this tape I'm posting here, cos I like their dirty, unpolished sound, and listening this after so many years brought back nice memories of people involved with this band. Also hearing last song “Dictator Speech (outro)” in which they mixed speeches of Franjo Tuđman (Croatian president at that time) and Nazis sent chills down my spine cos it reminded me how awful and scary living was in 1990's Croatia... I could find no info about Bad Justice on the net, but I scanned the booklet and added it to the album folder.

VA - 'Nećemo i nedamo' benefit compilation (cass) [1997]

“Nećemo i nedamo” was a newsletter that was published by ZAP (Zagreb Anarchist Movement) during the second half of the 1990's. It had also an English version called “Zaginflatch” so maybe some of you have seen it. This tape is a benefit released for support of before mentioned newsletter and it features European line up of bands from mainly punk/hc style of music. I think it was released in 1997, but don't take that as a 100% correct since there's no date on the tape cover.Info stuff: Neither East Nor West Alternative News Service (English versions of “Nećemo i nedamo” aka “Zaginflatch”).

DESINENCE MORTIFICATION + S.M.C [1997] split tape (cass)

Another legendary release by two legendary bands from town of Pula! Desinence Mortification play this grind metal crust kinda music, with political lyrics. They remind me a bit of Dystopia, but songs are much shorter. S.M.C. (or Spiridon Mekas Crust) are energy all the way, growling politically inspired lyrics that comment on Croatian 1990's state and all it's flaws (and there were many to shout about!). Spiridon Mekas is by the way a conspirative name that Josip Broz Tito used while he was in in illegality before WWII. Great release, one of my favourites from the 1990's!

KURAC OD OVCE [2001] Čovjek s greškom (cass)

Kurac Od Ovce (or roughly Sheep's Dick) were a band from town called Kutina in Croatia. They were one of great bands from that town and were the one of many Kutina's bands/people involved around Baraka venue/project where I had so many interesting and often drunk nights and seen many good gigs. K.O.O. was formed in 1993 and had a couple of line-up changes. They play a straightforward punk/hc, somewhat reminiscent of bands like No Use For A Name, and have personal lyrics in a straight edge vein but they're not preaching, they're angry and they sound bloody good! This tape is their last release (third one) and it's a double A side release, same tracks on both sides of the tape which was released on Vedran M.'s (of Nula and R.D.K. fame) label Humanita Nova.

DEBELI SAMURAJ [1997] Svako ima pravo na život... na svoj život imam pravo samo ja! (cass)

Debeli Samuraj (or Fat Samurai) were a band from Sombor in Serbia and they play Oi Polloi influenced punk/hc. I got this tape through a friend back in the 1990's and I'm ashamed to say that I don't know anything about them. Lyrics are anarchist, anti-war, and generally pretty good and they sing in Serbian. This tape was a D.I.Y release (and only Debeli Samuraj release that I know of), songs 01-07 from A side and songs 08-14 from B side.
Update on 2008-05-23.: As Milan was kind enough to provide further info on this band I can also inform you that Debeli Samuraj were from a town of Sombor in Serbia, and that they broke up in the late 1990's and that members of Debeli Samuraj later played in a band called Anger Is A Gift.

NULA [1994] Pobjedimo laž (cass)

Wow! What to say about this one... This is, for me personally, one of the most important releases that ever came out in Croatia. I was a young punk then, back in 1994 when this came out, and I knew about anarchist attitudes since I've been listening to old bands like Crass and Conflict but this one really hit me hard. I'll try to explain it if I can, it was bloody 1994, war in Croatia was still going on, Generalissimus (wannabe!) Franjo Tuđman (Croatian president, I'm sorry he died only cos if he lived he would be sent to UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague and the bastard deserved it!) was firmly in power, people were crazy from nationalism and war, and then I get this tape, from a very brave 5 piece band from town of Šibenik nonetheless. The town of Šibenik was then in a war zone, and boys from Nula are telling/yelling it to the politicians, cops, army, church, idiots.... They're screaming to those bastards - fuck you, we wanna live our lives! It had a great impact on me, it made me more angry at the war, at the way I'm living in this nationalistic lie, it made me hate the haters. Nula (english Zero) released this “Pobjedimo laž” (or something like “Let's Defeat The Lie”) tape and my life was never the same afterwards (I know it sounds like a cliché, but it's true). Songs 01-17 are from A side, and 18-34 from B side. Last two songs on A side (16 & 17) are from a band called Stratus, also from Šibenik. I think Stratus released one demo tape but as a band they were short lived. Nula later released a whole bunch of stuff, some of them were a split LP with Bijes Zdravog Razuma, split with Bagger from Switzerland, 10” split with Enough from Poland etc. One thing I must add is that it's a big release (in MBs) cos it's almost 90 minutes of tape and I've scanned the booklet with all the artwork (booklet was a split release with Glans Penises #6 fanzine done by a Nula drummer Vedran M.) which I also added to this download.

Tapes are here... Oops, is it already the end of May?

Hi to everyone!
Again some new posts on Nečista Savjest blog. I was trying to organize some ripping from cassettes, and I finally succeeded! I managed to get a digital preamplifier so some rarities or/and legendary releases from Ex-YU scene (and some other ones too) are gonna be featured next. I have to warn you that quality of those Ex-YU releases (production and sound) are not always the best. During the 1990's when I was involved in the scene tapes were the main way of getting your music to people, since vinyl or CDs weren't accessible (or better said affordable). Most of the tapes releases were recorded in a garage or some other practice place, or in some “cheap” (read: not very well equipped) studio and they were multiplied on home stereos, copied to blank tapes or even on used ones. Only later in 1990's really professionally copied tapes appeared and after that home computers and cheap CD-Rs have done their work (and mp3s too) so spreading of punk became much easier.
Well I hope you'll enjoy what I planned to upload and thanx to everyone who left a comment, I have not posted on this blog, but I have been watching your input and I thank you all once more.
Good blogs that I've found recently are viva la anarquia (in French) and Sabots & Songs (done by Luc(a)s from USA). Go and check them out, I think they're worth it!
That's all from me, and... crap... it really is the end of May... I misplaced one month... somewhere... where did it go... damn... I'll never drink again!

Happy Victory Day over Nazi scums to you all!

Šaban Šaulić - Bio sam pijanac

Šaban Šaulić is a legend amongst Ex-YU folk artists. This song is called "I Was A Drunkard" and it talks about an unreturned love turned to alcoholism. Sad really, but I can find myself connected to it somehow. Well, that's it...

Hope you enjoy it, or that it'll just make you wonder what's it all about...

Babbling on in Babylon....

Nečista Savjest is back after more than a month long hibernation. Nothing much going on in my personal life that would justify this absence from blog, I'll just have to try to stay more consistent in the future.
First of all, big thanx to Ivo B. (AKA Dirty Hedgehog) who provided music for last five posts by kindly borrowing me the CDs and so making it possible to rip and scan them.
Also I added some new links under “Other Cool Sites” and I would recommend you to check them out. Lo-Res Viscera is full of excellent hardcore/grind/crust stuff and it comes from San Francisco, USA. Enemy Of The Music Business is similar, also whole bunch of excellent stuff with maybe more anarchist punk on it, it's in Spanish although it's being made out of Bern in Switzerland. Ballistic Wax is done by John Spithead, front-man of one of my favourite ska/punk bands called Spithead so I'm a bit flattered that I got to know him through this blog :) . As I've already mentioned, all above blogs are well worth checking out so don't let your lazy mouse finger keep you out of reach of some excellent music!
I also managed to move my lazy fat arse and upload new stuff to ADrive and MediaFire as well so I hope that this gives you more choice when downloading.
Thanx to people who left comments, they were a big inspiration and support for me to keep on with this blog!
Also I would like for everyone to leave a comment (under “komentari”) cos I want to see what you like. Statistics for download don't work on ADrive so I haven't got a clue what's being downloaded and adding a comment would help a lot. You don't have to write a 10 page essay, just plain thanks would be enough, and also all problems with links - please post in comments!
Well, that's it for now, stay free and have fun in your life!

SECTION 5 - (1993) - For The Love Of Oi! + Street Rock 'N' Roll

Uhhh, first of all, I have to admit that I don't know much about this Oi!/punk band except that they're from UK and that they started playing in early 1980's. That's all I could dig up on the net, and this CDs booklet wasn't helpful in my search either. All I can tell you is that this is a reissue of two Section 5 albums (2nd and 3rd album, I think) on one CD and that it was released by Link Music and Step-1.Info stuff: MySpace, Punk & Oi In The UK interview.

COCKNEY REJECTS - (1993) - The Power & The Glory

I described what I feel about the Cockney Rejects in my previous post with their “Greatest Hits Vol. 1” so just a short info about this release. It's a Dojo Ltd.'s reissue of their 1981 album released on EMI (and I think their last for those fuckers). It has a more rock sounding songs, not so much of the youthful flare like in their first two albums, but it's still a good release.Info stuff: Official site, Wikipedia.

BAD MANNERS - (1996) - Eat The Beat

UK ska legends Bad Manners and their indestructible front-man Buster Bloodvessel need no introduction, but here it is anyway. They were formed in 1976, and enjoyed great success during 1970's and 1980's. I guess they are one point in my the best UK 2 Tone ska bands triangle consisting of them, The Specials and The Madness. This CD is a reissue of their “Eat The Beat” album from 1988 originally released by Blue Beat Records with tracks 14-18 being bonus ones. Hope you'll enjoy this!Info stuff: Bad Manners Information Service, MySpace, Wikipedia.

DESMOND DEKKER [1994] Greatest Hits

Back to some ska in this post, and I mean real original first wave ska. Desmond Dekker (1941-2006) was born in Jamaica and he started with his music career in the beginning of the 1960's. He was one of best known (both in Jamaica and internationally) ska/reggae artists before Bob Marley appeared on the scene. This is a fine compilation of his best known hits and it's a good one if you want to check out how it all started.Info stuff: Official page, Wikipedia.

News & other stuff

Hello to all! I thought that I should inform you about some of the stuff I've been involved in during last couple of days.
First of all, for all of you out there who are Dekubitus fans (check my first post ever) there is good news. Dekubitus released their new CD. It's called "Nekro sevdah" and it's the expanded (more songs) and better produced (more polished) version of their 2005 release of the same title. Head over to Poskok blog for more info and details. I got the original CD of this new version of "Nekro sevdah" (I'm not uploading it until all original CD's are sold) and I must say that you won't be sorry if you somehow get it, it has some surprises on it, and it really does sound better than the previous 2005 version.
I've found this blog called jebo copyrights (fuck copyrights) and it's an excellent resource for all of you wanting to learn (download) more about recent Ex-Yugoslavian punk/hc stuff. Check it out, it has some good things on it.
There's also one sad news: PunchDrunk blog is closing down. I visited it today and was truly saddened with this news. It was one of the most inspiring blogs, and for me it was the one that got me into doing my own blog (alongside some other excellent blogs). I'll be missing it a lot, so cheers to Robert and his PunchDrunk!
Also, one of the things that will be going on with Nečista Savjest blog is that I'm going to take a break for a while. I've exhausted my CD collection, and I also want to upload more rare stuff on this blog so untill I figure out the way to rip cassettes (all Ex-YU punk/hc stuff from the 1990's is mostly on tape) to my computer I'll just post stuff on Nečista Savjest from time to time, and only if I find something really interesting.
Concerning dowloads, recently I've been following a discussion on Röckin' Nöiz about ADrive and the speed of downloads from that file hosting service. MediaFire was suggested as a possible alternative. I will try to post future uploads on both ADrive and MediaFire, only irony being that MediaFire has a 100 MB per file limit, so the bigger files (and as I see it, those are the ones needing faster download speed) won't be uploaded to MediaFire.
Well, that's it from me for now. Have fun in your life!

AKTIVNA PROPAGANDA - (2004) - Na ruševinah kapitalizma...

Aktivna Propaganda are an anarchist punk/hardcore band from Slovenia. They play music that is hard and fast and have lyrics that are uncompromising at expressing band's support and engagement in anti-fascist, anti-NATO, anti-authoritarian causes. "Na ruševinah kapitalizma..." (or "On The Ruins Of Capitalism...") is their second album (the first was self-titled and released in 2000). I watched them a few times live and they give you a good and inspiring show. They are still active so check them out at the links below.

PASMATERS - (2002) - Pasmaters

Pasmaters are a hardcore-punk band from town of Pula (yes, it's Pula time again on Nečista Savjest) in Croatia. They were originally formed in 1984 (according to Monte Paradiso Netlabel) but didn't do much and were truly active in the late 1990's. This is their only release that I know of. It was produced by the legendary Jule (of Anti Otpad, Eluj, Barrakuda, Bolesno Grinje, etc. fame). It's 17 tracks of fast and angry hardcore in Pula style and it's also one of my personal favourites. They are not active any more but if you're interested in them beware cos while surfing the net for more info about them you'll find at least three other bands from Croatia with the same name who have nothing to do with the band that I've posted here. Pasmaters is obviously popular name for a band in Croatia, it comes from a swearword phrase "jebo ti pas mater" which can be roughly translated as "dog fucked your mother".
Info Stuff: Monte Paradiso Netlabel (FLAC, Ogg Vorbis & VBR mp3 download of this album).
Update on 27.04.2008.: Anonymous corrected me and here's what he/she wrote: "They are active, and they have a new CD." Also there was a Pasmaters MySpace address provided so here it is -
