VA - Dub Chill Out [1996]

No point in me writing anything here, anyone into dub can see from the tracklist that there are great Jamaican artists on this compilation, King Tubby is a legend, Sly & Robbie are legends, King Jammy (aka Prince Jammy) is a legend, and Lee “Scratch” Perry is a legend, although I did manage to dig up a review of this release: “First of all, it should be pointed out that this is a great dub collection. However, the usually reliable people at Music Club have pulled a bogus card from their deck with this one: the six tracks credited to Scratch are actually King Tubby dubs of Bunny Lee productions with new and silly titles as "Lee Perry Upsetting Dub", "Lee Perry Special Dub" etc. To make matters worse, it's likely that all of the tracks are mistitled. Buy it for the classic King Tubby shots; Scratch isn't here.” So there you have it, judge for yourselves, all I know is: this is a great compilation, I listened to it extensively, and I was definitely chilled out.

VA - Aussie 3-Way Split Tape! [1997] (cass)

I got this tape through Dado B. (aka Marva) who ran Bloody Murderer Tapes label/distro. This tape is a compilation of three Australian bands which all hail from Richmond, town/suburb of Melbourne. Basically, as I was able to decipher from the cover, this is three releases being put on one tape: Drunkard's "Confusion demo '97" (released originally on Beerache Productions), Phobia's self titled demo and Stand Against's "Bred To Hate" demo. At the time I got this tape I have not heard of any of the bands on it but later I got hold of the "Riot On Ramsay Street" CD compilation and on it you can find one song by Phobia and one by Stand Against, together with some quite interesting bands, so keep your eyes open for that one. Music on this 3-way tape is crust/grind/punk type, and quality of recordings varies from band to band. I personally like Phobia best at the moment, but Stand Against are closing in fast. It's brutal, and it's energetic, so just play it loudest you can and enjoy!!!

VA - Nova Scotian Jigs & Reels [1998] (cass)

This one (as many other tapes) found its way to me through Dado B. (aka Marva) who ran Bloody Murderer Tapes label/distro. It says it is a benefit tape of some sort, but kill me, I have no recollection for what, well, all Marva's tapes were a benefit for something I guess. The tape itself was put together and cover for it drawn/made by Kukatz and his Fecal Forces Productions. It features five bands who are all from town of Halifax, capital of Nova Scotia province of Canada. Music ranges from crust, grind to fast angry hardcore. I quite like this compilation as I never heard any of the bands before.

VA - Benefit za Infoshop (cass) [1999]

This compilation tape was released as a benefit (hence the title) for Attack's Infoshop. Attack (short for Autonomna Tvornica Kulture or Autonomous Culture Factory) was this non-profit organization, almost a coalition of different groups and individuals formed back in 1997 (I think, cos memories are somewhat blurred). Infoshop was a fun part of it all, one could drink a proper coffee there, buy zines (and steal them as many assholes have done), talk to kind and friendly bartenders (who are also responsible for making this tape possible) and generally kill time with a feeling of making a difference. Attack exists even now, it is not dead yet, but to tell you the truth, I have not been involved in it for a long long time, and I have no clue in what it turned out into and I don't really want to know. Well, enough about memories of past times, the tape is mainly Croatian bands, with a few exceptions (Autonomy, Wat Tyler, Phill Hutchings...), music is varied, ranging from dirty punk and anarchist hardcore to some experimental type of music, it is really hard to describe it all. I must warn you that the quality of recordings is pretty low cos most bands donated either live or demo tracks.

VA - Prvi korak compilation (cass) [1995]

“Prvi korak” (or “The First Step”) is one of my favourite compilations from the 1990's since it was from this tape I first heard of bands like Atheist Rap that I love and listen to still to this day. Tape features bands from Croatia and Serbia (well, actually all from Novi Sad) and their music styles range from melodic punk/hc to growling hardcore. It was released by M/F Scum Records run by two guys from towns of Našice and Osijek who also did a fanzine called “M/F Scum”. “Prvi korak” also came with a booklet and it is included in the download file.

“Nećemo i nedamo” was a newsletter that was published by ZAP (Zagreb Anarchist Movement) during the second half of the 1990's. It had also an English version called “Zaginflatch” so maybe some of you have seen it. This tape is a benefit released for support of before mentioned newsletter and it features European line up of bands from mainly punk/hc style of music. Two 7" compilations

This two 7" compilations come on this blog courtesy of Malisha of Röckin' Nöiz blog. I have to admit that I had a bit of autocensorship trip when I was deciding to place a Gay Pride 7'' cover on my blog or not, but now somehow I figured it out and I feel that putting pictures of sex is less harmful than putting pictures of dead people on my blog. I then started to realize that all this so called Western Civilization is so hung up on dead people. The more dead they are, the more they enjoy them. Those fucking cannibals! And all those punk/hc covers, it's all the same, dead, genocide, pits filled with putrid bodies, it's like all those bands get off on all that death, they are also a bunch of fucking cannibals. Western Europe, take notice or you're gonna burn!!!

Full name of this compilation is "Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart (But The Very Next Day You Took It To Record And Tape Exchange)". It's a nice compilation, maybe I should have it put up at Christmas time, but since all that catholic shit don't move me (I'm an atheist) I think it fits here just right. There is NO god (and if you think about it, GOD spelled backwards is DOG! - thanx to the Spithead band I can give you this revelation)! God sucks, anyway you call it, God, Allah, Buddha, etc. Religion is an organization that controls people with the help of sex guilt and sheep behavior. It's crap, don't go to church, or mosque, or any temple of worship cos they want your soul. Karl Marx was right, religion IS the opium for the people! Have some heroin, it's better than god. Fuck the church, they make people get cancer and commit suicide! Religion is bad for you! You can see that I have a pretty strong feelings about religion and churches, and I'm sorry if I have offended anyone, but it's your fault if you are a dumb fucking asshole of a believer!

Gay Pride is an excellent compilation, bands are mostly melodic (except Doom) and they get the message across both in serious and in funny way. I personally like Chumbawamba song the best cos it's simple and straightforward. It goes something like: "What's the ugliest part of your body? / Some say your toes / Some say your nose / But I think it's your mind / Your mind / Your mind...". Can't beat that! Gay rights are violently debated in today's Croatia, last Gay Pride march was almost bombed with molotov cocktails, and the previous ones were also held under tight police supervision. Police wasn't there cos it was worried about gays & lesbians but cos it was worried about the primitives trying to disrupt the march. I have some gay & lesbian friends and I don't understand why ordinary people in Croatia hate them, cos I've found out that those gay & lesbian (hello to Anchi!) friends of mine are really cool people. When I get drunk the gay boys are not trying to rape me when I'm unconscious from alcohol intake (although straight people try to rob me when I'm in this state by picking through my pockets and wallet) and lesbian girls are so much fun to talk to than the ordinary girls (who are worried about the marriage and stuff like that). I got this with Živjela Komercijala zine. There was a gig in KSET club (I think Fakofbolan, Proleteriat, Bez Panike and Debeli Precjednik played) and you could get in after buying a copy of Živjela Komercijala (hello to Sandro!) zine as a ticket and with it you'd also get this compilation CD. It's mainly German bands, I think all of them except Bambix who are from Belgium. It's mostly punk music with a couple of hardcore and Oi! bands.

Last year I went to an Atheist Rap gig in SKUC-PAUK club in Zagreb. There I've bought a "Novosadska punk verzija 1978-2005" book written by Sava Savić & Igor Todorović and with it I got this CD. It's a compilation of bands from Novi Sad which covers the existence of punk in that city throughout the years. ANTI-CHUMBA EP

Since I've put up some albums from Chumbawamba (and almost all of them from their "sell-out" phaze) I thought it would be fair to also put up something that comments on Chumbas excursion into the mainstream. So here it is, the Anti-Chumba EP. Best track on it, for me, is by The Bus Station Loonies. Didn't scan the covers - sorry!
Update on 29.01.2008.: Thanx to Malisha from Rockin' Nöiz blog who scanned the covers! Despite The Chineapple Punx and Wat Tyler tracks being listed on the back cover, they weren't pressed on this 7" vinyl.

1980's Hardcore/Punk

I was too young (or maybe too ignorant) to listen to any of these bands when they originally came out, but I had the luck of knowing a guy who needed money when he was in his recreational junkie phase and who sold me this 7" EPs cheaply. I got hooked on them (Punk, Not Junk!!) cos the bands were fast, angry and exciting.
Raped Teenagers are from Sweden, this is their first 7" EP. I couldn't understand a word of what they were singing (or better said - screaming) about, but they kicked ass. I later bought their "I Kräftans Klor" album and it was a bit different (more melodic maybe) than the first 7" but still definitely a Raped Teenagers record. I have to admit that I don't understand why this band isn't more popular, I rarely see their stuff mentioned when people write about Swedish hardcore/punk bands. I think it's not fair so check them out, you won't be sorry!!!
Scraps are from a town of Lille, France, and are also one of my favourite bands. You can guess what their views are by looking at the song titles like "Le Pen Fuck You" or "Make Noise, Not Music". Unfortunately I don't understand much French so I don't know a lot about this band except from what I was able to decipher from their 7" records sleeves.
Senseless Death is a 7" compilation of U.S. hardcore bands released by Nuclear Blast Records from Germany. My favourite band is Impulse Manslaughter (also very good songs by Psycho and AMQA). Impulse Manslaughter are my ultimate American HC band. I think they're from Chicago, but don't trust me a 100% on this information. I also have their "He Who Laughs Last... Laughs Alone" LP, but unfortunately it has been ruined by too much scratches and so making it impossible to rip from (I bought it second hand, and listened to it quite a lot, and then recklessly borrowed it to some idiotic people - NEVER BORROW YOUR VINYL!! - people are careless pigs!). If anyone has a link to anywhere where I could get that LP please let me know!!!
All releases in this post are vinyl rips, so they're not perfect...
